This couldn\u2019t have been an easy decision, particularly as it was during the pandemic when finances were <\/span><span>especially <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">tough for many. However, some didn\u2019t have much of a choice.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">During the pandemic, most childcare centres and schools closed down, leaving <\/span><span>many<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">families with no way of finding childcare arrangements. Instead, they had to make a<\/span>\u00a0<span>very difficult<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">choice<\/span><span>;<\/span> <span data-contrast=\"auto\">one <\/span><span>parent<\/span><span>\u00a0must<\/span><span> stay home<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to take over the childcare responsibilities, <\/span><span>which now included<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> home-schooling<\/span><span>.<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">\u00a0<\/span><span> Due to reasons such as childcare sti<\/span><span>ll being considered the major responsibility of mothers and women <\/span><span>on average earning less than their male partners, it was women who <\/span><span>were most under<\/span><span> pressure to leave employment.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>A report by <a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/global\/en\/issues\/work\/content\/women-at-work-global-outlook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Deloitte <\/a><\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.deloitte.com\/global\/en\/issues\/work\/content\/women-at-work-global-outlook.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span>found that 4 in 10 women <\/span><\/a><span>express a sense of obligation to prioritise their partners&#8217; careers before their own<\/span><span>. Th<\/span><span>is goes <\/span><span>even for women who are the primary earners<\/span><span>.<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span>In the current post-pandemic era<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, nearly <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.uschamber.com\/workforce\/data-deep-dive-a-decline-of-women-in-the-workforce\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">60%<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> of parents cite a lack of childcare as their reason for leaving the workforce. So, while childcare centres have <\/span><span>reopened<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">, parents are still struggling<\/span><span> with this issue<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">.\u00a0<\/span><span data-ccp-props=\"{&quot;201341983&quot;:0,&quot;335559739&quot;:160,&quot;335559740&quot;:259}\">\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span data-contrast=\"auto\">Burnout was also a significant challenge for women, which<\/span>\u00a0<span>undoub<\/span><span>tedly contributed to many of them leaving <\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\">the workforce. In a study, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/wiw-report.s3.amazonaws.com\/Women_in_the_Workplace_2021.pdf\"><span data-contrast=\"none\">McKinsey &amp; Company<\/span><\/a><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> found that 1 in 4 women considered leaving or changing careers due to burnout in 2020, in 2021 <\/span><span>it rose<\/span><span data-contrast=\"auto\"> to 1 in 3.
