Some liked the new change and didn\u2019t want to return.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Hiring went remote.<\/strong> Having sent their people home, employers came to realize that they would need to operate virtually, leading many firms to rapidly adopt remote hiring strategies.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Talent pools seemed to dry up <\/strong>A shortfall of candidates led many talent leaders to expand their search horizon, taking advantage of the fact that people weren\u2019t going to the office anymore anyway.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Digital became overlord <\/strong>Through all of this, digital mediums\u2014such as social channels\u2014increased in their influence. Slender pickings indeed.<\/p>\n<p><strong>What other people think matters. <\/strong>More than <a href=\"https:\/\/www.inc.com\/adam-robinson\/more-than-half-of-job-seekers-say-they-wouldnt-apply-to-a-company-with-bad-online-reviews.html\"><span>half<\/span><\/a> of job seekers abandon their pursuit of a job after reading negative reviews about a company on employer review sites<\/p>\n<p><strong>It\u2019s important your business has a purpose. <\/strong>A BetterUp Labs study found that 9 out of 10 professionals said they would sacrifice up to 23% of their future earnings for work that is always meaningful.<\/p>\n<p><strong>A happy workforce becomes a powerful growth opportunity engine. <\/strong>According to a Nielsen\u2019s Global Trust <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/us\/en\/insights\/report\/2012\/global-trust-in-advertising-and-brand-messages-2\/\"><span>study<\/span><\/a>, 92% of consumers believe suggestions from friends and family more than they do advertising. Suggestions from independent employees (i.e., not salespeople or executives) come a close second as a trusted source. Presumably, buyers believe that employees are quite skeptical creatures, and are likely to give an honest account of their experiences when asked.<\/p>[\/et_pb_text][\/et_pb_column][\/et_pb_row][et_pb_row _builder_version=&#8221;4.8.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_column type=&#8221;4_4&#8243; _builder_version=&#8221;4.8.1&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.11.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221;]<h2>Workers look to work for companies with positive social and cultural values\u2014and if you\u2019re not sincere, you will be found out<\/h2>[\/et_pb_text][et_pb_text _builder_version=&#8221;4.11.3&#8243; _module_preset=&#8221;default&#8221; hover_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243; global_colors_info=&#8221;{}&#8221; sticky_enabled=&#8221;0&#8243;]<p>Marketing in 2021 is all about <strong>authenticity<\/strong>\u2014Your business can\u2019t purport to be what it\u2019s not. Try that, and it will be surely found out.<\/p>\n<p>Workers are seeking out companies with solid values around sustainability, diversity, community, the circular economy, and businesses that offer the kind of modern cafe campus-style of living that gets advertised on TV.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Setting out a position on social values is not without its challenges. Where do you draw the line? <\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Businesses aren\u2019t accustomed to having to join the debate. Some execs are running scared of it. Others are embracing the impact of the pandemic as a change agent to engage their workforce on a more intimate level.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.linkedin.com\/news\/story\/shopify-ceo-were-a-team-not-family-5060180\/\"><span>CEO of Shopify<\/span><\/a>, Tobias L\u00fctke, reminded workers that they\u2019re a business, not a family, stating\u2014\u201cYou are born into a family. You never choose it, and they can\u2019t un-family you. The dangers of \u2018family thinking\u2019 are that it becomes incredibly hard to let poor performers go. Finding smarter and better ways to create a safety blanket around your workforce\u2014and honoring those commitments\u2014is paramount. Today, welfare is a front-of-mind issue in the minds of many workers.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>#3. Brand your internal voice<\/h3>\n<p>Consider implementing a brand agenda for your internal persona. This is a good way to engage your team and come up with an internal brand story. Consider having an internal brand message that you can reinforce within your messaging, perhaps even including your team in the formation of that agenda.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>#4. Over-listen, and over-communicate<\/h3>\n<p>When people are working remotely, or in a hybrid mode, that feeling of isolation is inevitable. It\u2019s never been more important for businesses to listen harder to plan internal communications plans around over communication. We are seeing companies being highly creative in this area, by creating virtual meetups, roundtables, virtual town halls, pop-up events, and more. Above all else, your workers appreciate transparency, they like to know what\u2019s going on\u2026 and they want a say in what happens in the business and the direction of the business.<\/p>\n<h3><\/h3>\n<h3>#5. Just do it<\/h3>\n<p>If you want your brand to have integrity, the worst possible thing you can do is not deliver on what you say you\u2019re going to do. You need to be trustworthy and that means not overpromising.
